The Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) has released a coronavirus update.

GCHD Director Josh Embry on Tuesday reported 13 new cases of the virus have been confirmed since Thursday, giving the county 128 new cases of the virus since February 9, about 4.7 per day. That’s down from the over 14 per day the county averaged between January 18 and February 8.

The new cases increase the county’s COVID-19 victim count to 1,993 (about one case per 13.5 Grayson Co. residents).

Embry said there are 28 active coronavirus cases in the county, down six since Thursday, and the fewest number of active cases in several months.

No new deaths were reported, leaving the county’s COVID-19 death toll at 52.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,913 (96 percent) Grayson Co. residents have recovered from the virus.

Embry said the 1B vaccine waiting list at the health department now has 355 people after “only a few weeks ago” having nearly 1,900 residents. He credited the health department’s “partnership with the hospital and local pharmacies” for shrinking the waiting list so quickly.
