Six Grayson County High School musicians were recently recognized for their musical excellence by participating in the 40th Anniversary WKU Honors Band.

To be considered for the honors band, students submitted a video audition where they were in competition with hundreds of high school musicians from around the region. This year, due to social distancing guidelines, only 96 musicians were awarded spots in the honors band, according to WKU.

Selected to perform in the 40th Anniversary WKU Honors Band were musicians Shaina Portman, Jeremiah Embry, Noah Snyder, Kristen Decker, Gavin Mudd, and Bailey Day.

All the musicians participated in both full and small ensemble during the mid-March event, conducted by the WKU Music Department faculty, including Dr. Matthew McCurry, WKU Associate Director of Bands.
