Fewer than 1,000 new COVID cases over weekend, 23 deaths

Over the weekend, health officials reported a combined 998 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Kentucky on Saturday (637) and Sunday (361), ending the eleventh consecutive week of declining cases.

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 425,024 (about one case per 10.4 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported a combined 23 COVID-19 deaths, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 6,031 (1.4 percent fatality rate).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate rose from Friday’s 2.80 percent to 2.88 percent on Sunday.

Hospitalizations decreased by two patients to 381 over the weekend, while the number of people in intensive care fell by seven to 96. Victims on ventilators dropped by seven people to 39.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 20,498 (4.8 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 4,233 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 49,529 (11.7 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.
