Grayson Co. COVID incident rate drastically drops, one new death reported

After Grayson County’s COVID-19 incident rate skyrocketed in late May, the Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) on Wednesday announced the county has averaged only one new case of the virus per day over the last seven days.

GCHD Director Josh Embry reported seven new cases of the virus have been confirmed since May 26. The new cases increase the county’s COVID-19 case count to 2,278 (about one case per 11.9 Grayson Co. residents).

The county’s rate of occurrence, which stood at 13.0 cases per day per 100,000 residents on May 26, has experienced a precipitous drop to 3.2 cases per day per 100,000 residents over the last week.

Fifteen Kentucky county’s have reported zero new coronavirus cases over the last seven days, including Butler, Barren, Green, Crittenden, Lyon, Carlisle, and Fulton.

There are 27 active coronavirus cases in the county, with one person currently hospitalized. One new death was reported, raising the county’s death toll to 57 verified deaths, Embry said.

Since on the onset of pandemic, 2,212 people (97.1 percent) have recovered from the virus.
