On Wednesday afternoon, multiple law enforcement agencies raided two disgusting and deplorable properties in Leitchfield, known to police as “Tent Cities,” that have become havens for drug dealers and users amidst law abiding neighbors, according to police.

The Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force, Leitchfield Police Department and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office began by arresting five people at 609 Leavette Avenue Wednesday afternoon on various drug and theft charges.

Details regarding those arrests will be forthcoming at K105.com.

The property at 609 Leavette Avenue is overrun with garbage, rubbish, multiple dilapidated structures along with several apparently inhabited tents, as police expressed disgust and frustration that such a property is allowed to exist within the city limits. Over a dozen children’s bicycles were also on the property.

The neighbors K105 spoke with, who live only a few dozen feet from 609 Leavette Avenue, and who had well maintained lawns and properties, expressed similar revulsion at having to live among such filth and alleged drug activity.

Law enforcement left Leavette Avenue after making the arrests, with Animal Control officers also taking several animals from the property, and traveled to 502 West Main Street in Leitchfield where the property is a near mirror image of the Leavette Avenue property.

Sitting among maintained properties on West Main Street was a virtual garbage dump that was home to trash and dilapidated buildings. Additionally, human feces were found behind the property near railroad tracks that run directly behind the property.

While no one was at the 502 West Main Street property, police located and seized stolen car parts. Police said that roughly the same group of people frequently move between the Leavette Avenue address and 502 West Main Street.

Both properties are owned by the same person.

K105 will have much more on this developing story, including information regarding those arrested and the charges they face.
