The Leitchfield Fire Department battled a semi-truck fire Thursday on the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Thursday night at approximately 8:15, Leitchfield firefighters responded to the 104-mile marker of eastbound WK Parkway and found a semi-truck trailer on fire. The semi, carrying wood pallets, caught fire after the truck’s rear, driver’s side tires blew out, causing the brakes to catch fire, according to Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall.

Upon arriving at the scene, flames were coming from the axles and rear tires, Duvall said. The fire destroyed the outer shell of the trailer above the tires, exposing the wood pallets.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire damage to the truck’s trailer.

There were no injuries reported and LFD cleared the scene at 9:55.
