COVID cases explode in Grayson County: 747 new cases in 15 days, raising incident rate to nearly 200

The Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) on Tuesday reported 130 new COVID-19 cases have been diagnosed since Saturday.

Since Thursday night, the GCHD has announced 326 new cases of the virus, raising the total number of cases ever diagnosed in Grayson County to 6,155. Since January 3, 747 COVID cases have been reported in the county; about 50 per day.

The new cases skyrocketed Grayson County’s incident rate to 198.9, more than double Thursday’s 87.6 rate of occurrence. An incident rate over 25.0 indicates a “critical spread” of the virus, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

All bordering counties are experiencing a surge in cases, with Hardin County posting the highest rate of occurrence at 253.9, followed by Ohio (216.7), Breckinridge (182.8), Butler (136.4), Hart (126.8), and Edmonson (95.2) counties.

There are 437 active cases in Grayson County, up 76 since Saturday. Eleven patients are hospitalized, down one since Saturday.

No new deaths were reported, leaving the county’s death toll to 109. Seven deaths are awaiting confirmation from state health officials.
