GC Tech Center students perform at high level at recent SkillsUSA competition

Will you have need for a vehicle mechanic, a computer programmer or a carpenter in the near future? If so, several Grayson County Technology Center students performed at a high level at the highly competitive SkillsUSA regional competition.

The tech center boasts three first place finishers and six students who scored in the top three in their individual disciplines.

First place finishers qualify for the SkillsUSA state competition in April.

  • Carpentry: Thane Smith first place, Lake Hatfield third place
  • Auto Service Technician: Dawson Parker first place, Evan Haycraft third place
  • 3D Printing Design: Paul Overton first place
  • Computer Programming: Isaac Dowell second place.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. A nonprofit national education association, SkillsUSA serves more than 333,527 students and instructors annually. This includes 19,019 instructors who join as professional members. Including alumni, SkillsUSA membership totals over 394,000.

SkillsUSA has served nearly 14 million annual members since 1965 and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Labor as a successful model of employer-driven workforce development.
