An eastern Kentucky woman is facing multiple felony charges after burning her small child’s feet.

Alexis Powell, 28, of Booneville, was arrested after an Owsley County Sheriff’s Office investigation showed she abused her four-year-old by burning the child’s feet as punishment, according to Owsley County Sheriff Brent Lynch.

Police said the child suffered second- and third-degree burns on both feet and was originally transported to University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center before being transferred to a burn unit at an Ohio hospital.

Powell was arrested Monday and charged with first-degree assault, endangering the welfare of a minor, first-degree criminal abuse (victim under 12), and first-degree wanton endangerment.

She was lodged in Three Forks Regional Jail.
