Kentucky COVID cases, positivity rate, deaths, hospitalizations up

The number of COVID-19 cases, positivity rate, rate of occurrence and deaths all rose in Kentucky last week.

During the week ending Sunday, 10,191 new cases were reported, up from the 9,574 cases reported to the Kentucky Department for Public Health two weeks ago.

Kentucky has now had 1,408,913 COVID cases reported since the beginning of the pandemic.

There were 38 COVID-related deaths during the week ending Sunday, up from the 30 deaths reported two weeks ago. In total, 16,182 Kentuckians have perished from COVID or complications from the virus.

The COVID positivity rate rose from 13.36 percent two weeks ago to 15.75 percent last week. The rate of occurrence also increased, from 26.60 two weeks ago to 30.77 last week.

There were 405 people hospitalized last week, up from the 377 hospitalizations two weeks ago. There were 49 patients in intensive care last week, down from the 54 ICU patients the previous week. The number of people on a ventilator rose from 18 two weeks ago to 23 last week.

There are now 43 Kentucky counties in the “red,” signaling a “high” spread of the virus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and an increase of 21 “red” counties from two weeks ago.
