A suspect has been killed in a fiery crash while fleeing Kentucky State Police in Hardin County.

The pursuit occurred Monday night at approximately 7:30 when a trooper attempted to stop a Kia Soul near the two-mile marker of the Joe Prather Highway (Hwy 313). A preliminary investigation, police said, showed that the pursuit continued west on Joe Prather Highway with speeds reaching 100 miles per hour before the suspect turned south onto Hwy 31-W.

The vehicle then made a U-turn and continued north on Hwy 31-W before running a red light near the intersection of Hwy 31-W and Gateway Crossing Boulevard, near Colton’s Steakhouse and Grill.

The fleeing vehicle struck three vehicles in the intersection and became disabled before catching fire in the southbound lanes.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner’s Office. The occupants of the other three vehicles were transported to Baptist Health Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

No law enforcement officers were injured.

The KSP Critical Incident Response Team is leading the investigation.

No other details, including the suspect’s identity, have been released by police.
