Two men have been arrested, one on drug charges, after the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office served arrest warrants at a Big Clifty residence.

Monday night at approximately 10:00, Grayson County Deputies Wally Ritter and Andy Cast along with Sgt. Erik Franklin arrived at a residence in the 100 block of Spurrier Road to serve arrest warrants on 47-year-old Steven Mode, a felon with convictions in Ohio and Butler counties for possession of methamphetamine and flagrant non-support, according to the Kentucky Department of Corrections.

Upon arriving at the home, police detected a strong odor of marijuana.

During a search of the residence, police located 32-year-old Kevin L. Smith, of Big Clifty, “in a doorway going up a narrow stairway,” the arrest citation states. In the room that Smith was exiting, police located a 9mm handgun and a loaded magazine and drug paraphernalia. In a nearby room, deputies found a bag of methamphetamine along with drug paraphernalia, according to the citation.

Both men were arrested, with Smith charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia. The charges are enhanced due to the presence of a firearm.

Mode was served with the warrants.

Both suspects were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
