Ohio County deputies have saved a man’s life after he threatened to kill himself.

Ohio County Sheriff Adam Wright said that on April 28 at approximately 7:00 p.m., four Ohio County deputies responded to Peabody Wildlife Management Area, in southern Ohio County, to locate an individual who threatened to commit suicide, and who could be in possession of a 12-gauge shotgun.

Upon arriving, deputies located the individual’s vehicle at the end of a road next to a lake.

“The four deputies decided to cautiously enter into the wooded area where the vehicle was parked,” according to Wright. “After entering the wooded area for approximately 200 yards deputies were able to locate the individual hiding behind a tree with a weapon.”

Deputies made contact with the distressed man and were successful in building a rapport. After speaking with the person for approximately 20 minutes, deputies were able to talk the individual into dropping his weapon and surrendering.

He was taken into custody and transported to a medical facility for treatment.

“Ohio County Sheriff’s Office’s Deputies Dylan Lynn, Robert Shocklee, Doug Esther (chief deputy), and Nicholas Wallace displayed the true purpose and the level of commitment of fulfilling the highest level of professionalism to serving the citizens of Ohio County each and every day,” Wright said.
