A convicted murderer who escaped from an Ohio prison and led police on a five day manhunt near Henderson has been found in the Ohio River.

The body of 50-year-old Bradley Gillespie was recovered from the river Sunday afternoon near Henderson after a boater spotted his body at approximately 1:30.

Gillespie, along with 47-year-old James Lee, escaped from Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution in Lima, Ohio, either Monday, May 22, or early Tuesday, May 23. The two men concealed themselves in a dumpster to make their escape. They were last known to be inside the prison at 8:40 Monday morning.

Early Wednesday morning in Henderson, police pursued a vehicle containing the two escapees, with the chase ending in a crash. Both men fled on foot, with police capturing Lee.

Rewards totaling $30,000 were offered by authorities for information leading to Gillespie’s capture, including $20,000 offered by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Gillespie has been in prison since 2016 while Lee was imprisoned in 2021 after being convicted of burglary and safe cracking.
