Authorities in Meade County are warning businesses about people passing counterfeit bills.

The Meade County Sheriff’s Office said multiple law enforcement agencies in the county, including the Brandenburg and Muldraugh Police Departments and sheriff’s office have “received calls of individuals attempting to pass or passing counterfeit $100 bills.”

The fake bills, the sheriff’s office said, will pass a marker test.

“We recommend examining all $100 bills closely to ensure they are not counterfeit,” the sheriff’s office urged.

The perpetrators have attempted to pass the bills at “numerous different stores in the area …,” police said.

Authorities said it appears the bills were presented to Meade County businesses beginning Monday.
