A tractor-trailer hauling 47,000 pounds of lumber flipped over in Clarkson.

Grayson County Chief Deputy Sonny Poteet and the Clarkson Fire Department responded to the crash Thursday morning at approximately 6:15 in the 400 block of West Main Street (Hwy 62).

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found a westbound semi, carrying a load of lumber to OFS in Leitchfield, left the roadway and traveled down an embankment. The semi continued, scraping a utility pole before entering the parking lot of Hwy 62 Service Center and flipping onto its side, crushing an unoccupied vehicle (prior to flipping, the truck scraped the side of an unoccupied SUV in the service center’s parking lot).

The uninjured driver, from Florida, told K105 that, as he was traveling west, an eastbound vehicle slightly entered the westbound lane. The driver swerved to avoid hitting the vehicle, resulting in the passenger side tires of the semi dropping off the roadway.

West Main Street was limited to one lane from the time of the accident until about 8:15 a.m. when the roadway was completely shut down. The scene was cleared of the semi and the roadway reopened at approximately 9:40 a.m.

Sheriff Norman Chaffins assisted at the scene.
