A Caneyville man was arrested Saturday morning after being accused of firing a gun at a Frankfort distillery parking lot as several people were lined up to enter a gift shop.

The Frankfort Police Department responded Saturday morning at 7:00 to Buffalo Trace Distillery on the report of shots fired in the parking lot outside the distillery’s gift shop as several patrons were lined up to purchase whiskey that the distillery offers at a discounted rate.

Upon arriving at the scene, they encountered the man who shot a rifle, 44-year-old James E. Ande, “who,” according to the Herald-Leader, “appeared intoxicated.” He was quickly taken into custody.

A witness, James Lauth, wrote on the Buffalo Trace Daily: What Is Sold Today and Predictions For Tomorrow Facebook page that Ande “came barreling into the parking lot from the back way, down the road behind the fence at high speed. Parked in a handicapped spot and went to talk to someone he knows in line. They went back to his car, and the driver pulls out an AR-15 and discharged a live round into the air. After that, he put the rifle back and pulled out a bottle of whiskey and drank some more. People scattered, cops showed up a couple minutes later, hooked him up and he turned into a baby.”

Ande was charged with multiple counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, trafficking in marijuana, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, and public intoxication. He was lodged in the Franklin County Detention Center on a $10,000 cash bond.
