Based on social media commentary, it appears there’s confusion among some residents on whether the Boil Water Advisory issued on Thursday morning by Leitchfield Utilities is still in effect.

It generally takes at least 24 hours for a certified drinking water laboratory to analyze water samples and report the results to Leitchfield Utilities. Therefore, the Boil Water Advisory remains valid.

The advisory was issued after heavy rain on Wednesday and into Thursday morning significantly raised water levels in the county, and in the process disguised a leak in a major water line, making it incredibly difficult for utilities’ workers to locate where the water line was compromised.

It was sometime Thursday morning, after searching for roughly 12 hours, that workers found the leak in a creek in the 1800 block of Lilac Road near the intersection with Cave Mill Road.

Leitchfield Utilities posted a short video of the leak, which can be found below.

Leitchfield Utilities and K105 will publicize when the boil water advisory is lifted.
