The only medical marijuana dispensary in Kentucky is temporarily closing after running out of product.

The Post Dispensary, at 300 North Main Street in Beaver Dam, was the first such business to open in the state on December 13. Since opening, the business has sold approximately 1,000 eight-ounce packages of medical marijuana, completely depleting its inventory.

Owner Trip Hoffman told The Marijuana Herald that he plans to “reopen in mid-January once additional product becomes available from licensed in-state cultivators.”

Hoffman said customers came as far as four hours away to purchase an eight-ounce package for $50. The cost of the product is expected to go down, Hoffman said, as additional cultivator operations begin bearing fruit.

Medical marijuana officially became legal in Kentucky on January 1, 2025, but the rollout has been slowed by legal requirements that all products be grown and processed in the commonwealth.

“While the law has been in effect for nearly a year, cultivation operations only began around five months ago, leaving dispensaries with limited early supply,” The Marijuana Herald reports.
