Grayson County wins Senior Celebration meet as Cougars honor four seniors at home

Grayson County celebrated Senior Night on Tuesday evening, honoring four seniors before the meet and following it up with a 1st-place finish in the combined team standings at the Grayson County Senior Celebration.

Prior to the competition, the Cougars recognized Tristan Brooks, Shane Hall, Gabe Dennis, and Lane Beasley for their contributions to the program.

Once the meet got underway, Grayson County delivered across the board, finishing with 128 combined points. The Cougar boys led the charge with a 1st-place team finish (89 points), while the Lady Cougars added 39 points on the night.

Cougars dominate on the track

Grayson County’s success started in the relays, where the Cougars swept both sprint relays.

The boys 4×100 team of Gabe Wooldridge, Austin Tilford, Brett Butler, and Cooper Justis raced to a 1st-place finish (47.56), while the boys 4×200 relay of Tilford, Beasley, Hall, and Jackson Watson also claimed gold in 1:49.60.

The Cougars added another strong relay showing with a runner-up finish in the 4×400, while the 4×800 team also placed 2nd.

Individually, Brett Butler had a standout night, winning the 200-meter dash (23.95) and placing 3rd in the 100 meters (11.69).

In the hurdles, Nathan Henderson and Mason Elliott continued their strong season, finishing 2nd and tied for 3rd in the 110 hurdles, while also placing 2nd and 3rd in the 300 hurdles.

In the middle distance events, Levi Masden placed 2nd in the 800 meters (2:10.00), with Cooper Justis adding a 3rd-place finish in the same event.

Field events power the Cougars

Grayson County was especially strong in the field events.

Lane Beasley delivered a Senior Night win in the high jump (5-04), while Josiah Judd added points in the event as well.

In the pole vault, Cooper Justis had another 1st-place finish (9-00).

The Cougars also found success in the jumps, as Austin Tilford won the triple jump (35-07), with Judd finishing 3rd.

In the throws, Tristan Brooks capped his Senior Night with a 1st-place finish in the shot put (36-06), while Beasley added a runner-up finish. Carson Keown contributed with a 4th-place finish in discus, with additional points coming from Kyle Fentress.

Lady Cougars add key performances

On the girls side, Grayson County was led by Jayden Nugent, who won the 300-meter hurdles (1:00.00) and added another victory in the pole vault (7-06).

Jane Bohannon picked up a win in the long jump (12-00.50) while also scoring in the triple jump.

The Lady Cougars also saw strong relay efforts, finishing 2nd in both the 4×800 and 4×200 relays, along with a runner-up finish in the 4×100.

In the sprints, Cindy Cruz placed 5th in the 200 meters, while Allie Baker added points in the 100.
