A Hardin County woman has pled guilty to smothering her child with a pillow.

The incident happened Saturday night June 7, 2025, on University Drive in Radcliff when 27-year-old Brooke Elizabeth Ann Corner, of Elizabethtown, was observed trying to suffocate her child with a pillow, according to a report by The News-Enterprise.

Corner told police her child was screaming and “out of control,” the Elizabethtown newspaper reports, as she admitted to holding a pillow over her son’s face.

A witness told authorities that Corner held the pillow over the child’s face for between one and two minutes, and that she had to be physically stopped from suffocating the child.

She was charged with first-degree strangulation (domestic violence) and first-degree criminal abuse of a child.

On Monday, Corner agreed to plead guilty to lesser charges, including second-degree strangulation (domestic violence) and second-degree criminal abuse (victim younger than 12) in exchange for a five-year prison sentence.

She will be formally sentenced on May 26.
