A central Kentucky homeowner has been killed during a home invasion.

The incident happened at approximately 3:00 a.m. Wednesday on Ruddles Mill Road, north of Paris in Bourbon County, when 40-year-old Timothy Mitchell broke into a home owned by 60-year-old Lucian “Luke” Ashcraft, according to a report by WKYT.com.

When Ashcraft discovered Mitchell in his home, a physical altercation ensued, as the suspect apparently struck Ashcraft with an unknown object.

When Bourbon County deputies arrived on scene, they found Ashcraft unresponsive and lying on the ground. He was later pronounced deceased.

Mitchell was arrested at the scene. Police found two pry bars, a battery-powered drill in a backpack and fireworks during a search of the suspect, who police said was under the influence of drugs.

He was charged with murder, first-degree burglary, possession of burglary tools and public intoxication (excludes alcohol). He’s being held in the Bourbon County Detention Center on a $5 million cash bond.
