An eastern Kentucky woman has been arrested with over five ounces of methamphetamine and nearly $1,500 in cash.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office on Monday night arrested 29-year-old Candice Nevels, of Monticello, after police conducted surveillance on Nevels as she prepared to transact a drug deal in a business parking on Hwy 90.
As Nevels turned into the parking lot, deputies conducted a traffic stop, with the sheriff’s office K-9 Dunya executing a “free-air sniff” and alerted on Nevels’ vehicle.
During a search of the vehicle, police found 5.5 ounces of methamphetamine (154.13 grams) in “two large bags,” a Taurus 9mm handgun, digital scales, Suboxone tablets, 8.5 Alprazolam (Xanax) tablets, and a glass pipe.
Police also seized $1,494 discovered in Nevels’ purse.
She was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), two counts of possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Nevels was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
