A Pulaski County man is behind bars after shooting a neighbor who he felt threatened by and who was walking down a roadway.
Pulaski County Sheriff Bobby Jones said the shooting occurred at approximately 12:35 a.m. on Wednesday on Dogwood Lane in Somerset.
The wife of the man who was shot, 39-year-old Adam Roark, told 911 that 40-year-old James E. Gleason had just shot her husband.
Upon police arriving at the residence, deputies discovered Roark, who was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and his wife in their driveway, Jones said in a social media post, as the wife was performing life-saving measures. Roark, though, died at the scene.
Police found Gleason “outside his residence.”
He told deputies, according to a report by WYMT.com, that Roark had been threatening him and his wife with “direct energy weapons” for years. Gleason added that “Roark had been threatening him that night.”
The citation states, according to WYMT.com, that Gleason said Roark was walking up the road when Gleason “took matters into his own hands,” as the suspect shot Roark several times.
The suspect claimed to have seen a firearm under Roark’s arm, but no gun was found.
Gleason was charged with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.
