A house has been destroyed and a dog killed in a fire on Taylor Fork Road.

The Leitchfield Fire Department responded on Saturday night to the report of a house fire in the 100 block of Taylor Ford Road, off the 3600 block of Anneta Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found flames “rolling out of the front door (and) onto a camper trailer parked next to the house,” Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall told K105.

Duvall said he could hear a puppy barking inside the residence, but efforts to save the dog were thwarted by the extreme heat and flames.

“I just wish I could have gotten the puppy out,” Duvall stated.

Firefighters were able to save the camper, although the outside of the structure suffered heat damage.

The home, unfortunately, was a total loss.

Duvall said the fire began in a 110-volt wall plug in the living room.

Firefighters cleared the scene Sunday at 12:22 a.m.
