A truck driver was killed when a semi-truck crossed the median and struck another semi-truck head-on.
The crash happened on Thursday afternoon at approximately 2:00 near the 67-mile marker of the Western Kentucky Parkway in Ohio County (not far from the Muhlenberg Co. line) when a westbound semi crossed the median and struck an eastbound tractor-trailer head-on, Ohio Co. Sheriff Adam Wright told news outlets.
Wright said “a young man was confirmed deceased” at the scene by the Ohio County Coroner’s Office. The truck driver that died at the scene was driving the semi that was struck. The other truck driver was not injured and submitted to a blood draw at Ohio County Hospital, Wright said.
Wright additionally noted that the impact was so severe that his office received multiple calls asking if there had been an earthquake.
The entire parkway between Beaver Dam and Central City was shut down for about four hours. Complicating the scene was approximately 200 gallons of diesel fuel and oil that was spilled in the collision, Wright said.
The eastbound lanes of the parkway were reopened at about 8:15 p.m., according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, while the westbound lanes reopened at around 10:30 p.m.
