Gertrude Hazel Stone, age 93, of Leitchfield, passed away Sunday, (April 12, 2026) at Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation in Leitchfield, KY. She was born on December 8, 1932, in Fairbury, IL, the daughter of the late Ernest and Hallie Litsey Stone.

Most of her early years were spent on a farm near Short Creek. She was a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College with a BA Degree; George Peabody College with MA Degree; and Rank 1 from Western Kentucky University. She retired from the Owensboro Board of Education in 1990 after serving 32 years as teacher, principal, and administrator.

She enjoyed games, reading, and being with family and friends, traveling and caring for others and was a long-time member of Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church in Owensboro where she served on numerous committees and boards.

She is survived by her three nephews, Ricky Armstrong (Pam) of Falls of Rough, Jeff Armstrong of Falls of Rough and Darrell Harrell (Kim) of Leitchfield; one niece, Donna Harrell Vincent (Shannon) of Auburn, KY; several great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Stone Armstrong and Dorothy Harrell.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, (April 18th, 2026) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Jim Coleman will be officiating. Burial will be in the Leitchfield Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday (April 17, 2026) and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Short Creek Methodist Church or Gideons International.
