A Henderson County woman has been sentenced to prison after shooting her boyfriend while testing a ballistic vest.

Lauren Jarvis, 36, of Henderson, fatally shot her boyfriend, Patrick R. Jobe, 40, of Corydon, with a rifle on March 10, 2025, at a home on Ruby Road, seven miles south of Henderson, as the pair was testing a ballistic vest.

Henderson County Sheriff’s Office investigators said during Jarvis’ preliminary hearing “that there appeared to be no intentions to hurt or kill Jobe …,” according to WEHT.com.

The bullet Jarvis fired struck Jobe in his upper back, above where the ballistic vest provided protection.

Jarvis was sentenced to 12 years in prison earlier this week after pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence.

She must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence.
