Kentucky State Police arrested an Anderson County man who was found with a firearm, over 200 rounds of ammunition, a Kevlar vest, a 100-round high capacity magazine, and a “detailed plan of attack “against two Kentucky school districts.

According to Kentucky State Police, on Wednesday state police received a complaint that a Lawrenceburg man was threatening and harassing a female residing in New Jersey. While investigating that complaint, KSP discovered that the suspect, 20-year-old Dylan Jarrell, had been questioned in May by the FBI over social media threats made against a school in Tennessee.

“KSP interviewed Jarrell late Thursday and found evidence of a credible and imminent threat to Shelby and Anderson County schools,” according to Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Sherry Bray. Officers searched Jarrell’s phone and found information that “pertained to threats of bodily harm against multiple persons at a school,” police said.

“This young man had it in his mind to go to schools and create havoc,” KSP Commissioner Rick Sanders said at a press conference on Jarrell’s arrest. “He had the tools necessary, the intent necessary, and the only thing that stood between him and evil was law enforcement.”

Jarrell was a student in Anderson County for a short period of time as he was enrolled in an adult education program, according to Assistant Superintendent Kerry Whitehouse. He received a GED through the program.

Jarrell was arrested late Thursday night and charged with harassing communications and terroristic threatening and lodged in the Shelby County Detention Center. Additional charges are possible.
