The Millwood mother injured when her home exploded on January 29 has died.

Angela Young, 44, died Saturday at University of Louisville Hospital from complications related to the severe burns she suffered over a large part of her body. Her seven-year-old daughter, JoHanna (aka Jo Jo), who was also in the residence when the blast leveled their home, is being cared for by her grandparents. Jo Jo, who was cut on the head and burned on her arms and back, was released from the hospital a day after the blast.

The state Fire Marshal ruled the explosion was caused by a faulty gas furnace leaking propane.

When the Leitchfield Fire Department arrived on the scene only minutes after the explosion, most of the home was on the ground and in flames. Debris from the blast was found as far as 100 yards away from the residence and shook homes as far as 10 miles away.

Young and her daughter were in the process of leaving the home when it exploded, as the worker who filled the family’s propane tank about three hours prior to the blast reported smelling gas after filling the tank. Young, who had returned home from work only minutes before the explosion, was told by a family member to not stay at the house for fear of a gas leak.

Young’s funeral is scheduled for Wednesday morning at 11:00 at Dermitt Funeral Home.

In addition to Jo Jo, Young is survived by her son, AJ Scanlon, and parents, Brenis and Lois Hudson.
