An Ohio County deputy has shot a wanted Hartford man after the suspect charged at police while carrying multiple weapons.

The incident began on Thursday when deputies attempted to serve arrest warrants on 29-year-old Patrick L. Bunch at Mulberry Court Apartments in Hartford. As police made contact with Bunch, he moved toward deputies with a knife in one hand and a hammer in the other, state police said. Police ordered Bunch to stop and drop the weapons, but he refused to comply and instead charged the deputies, resulting in Deputy Katie Pate shooting Bunch.

Bunch, who was shot in the hand, was treated at Ohio County Healthcare and released.

He is now lodged in the Ohio County Detention Center where he’s been charged with attempted murder of a police officer, third-degree assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, fleeing or evading police, violation of an EPO/DVO, manufacturing methamphetamine, trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), theft by unlawful taking, being a persistent felony offender, and unlawful possession of a meth precursor, along with other charges.

He’s being held on a $25,000 cash bond.

No deputies were injured. Pate, 29, has been placed on paid administrative leave per protocol when an officer is involved in a shooting.

Kentucky State Police is investigating.
