A Meade County man driving under the influence of drugs led Hardin County authorities on a high-speed pursuit and tried to run over officers early Wednesday morning.

Paul Bowshier, 38, of Ekron, was arrested by the Elizabethtown Police Department after officers attempted a traffic stop on South Dixie Avenue, according to The News-Enterprise. Bowshier, suspected of driving under the influence, fled the stop as police deployed spike strips at the intersection of Ring Road and Patriot Parkway.

The strips failed to stop Bowshier, who continued to flee in a 2010 Nissan Pathfinder with a flat tire at speeds over 120 miles per hour, the newspaper reports.

Bowshier, who has three DUI convictions, turned on to Ring Road which he took to North Black Branch Road and into the parking lot of Metalsa, a large factory. He made his way back to Ring Road where the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office deployed spike strips, flattening another tire.

Bowshier then turned on to North Dixie Avenue where Kentucky State Police deployed spike strips, flattening a third tire as the suspect turned onto Joe Prather Highway. State police again deployed spike strips on Happy Valley Road, flattening a fourth tire.

The suspect then drove the Pathfinder at officers “in an attempt to run over” law enforcement personnel. The chase came to an end on Joe Prather Highway with Bowshier refusing the leave the vehicle while resisting police, resulting in the suspect being tased.

According to the citation, Bowshier had slurred speech, constricted pupils and a slow reaction time to questions, according to the newspaper.

Bowshier is facing over a dozen charges, including multiple first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer counts, first-degree wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), resisting arrest, reckless driving, criminal mischief, DUI, and speeding 26 mph or more over the limit along with other counts.

He is lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.
