A man wanted by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office for criminal abuse of a child, multiple drug counts and for being a persistent felony offender has surrendered to authorities.

Anthony W. Schatt, 35, of Bee Spring, was wanted for first-degree criminal abuse (child under 12), two counts of possession of a controlled substance (heroin, drug unspecified), being a persistent felony offender, DUI (aggravating circumstances), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges stem from an incident on June 1, 2020, when the sheriff’s office was notified that Schatt was passed out in a running vehicle with a 14-month-old child in the parking lot of Ralph’s Market, in the 10700 block of Anneta Road.

Police pulled behind the suspect’s car upon arrival, and as Schatt woke up, he attempted to back his car up as a deputy yelled at him that he was parked behind him. Schatt, who made multiple appearances on Grayson County’s Most Wanted list, then put the car in drive and began to move forward when a deputy entered the car, taking control and putting the vehicle in park.

Schatt, according to police, was holding a syringe in his hand with another syringe located in one of his pockets. A gram of heroin was also found during a search.

The baby was turned over to a family member.

On Wednesday, Schatt turned himself in to Grayson County Deputy Sean Fentress at the Grayson County Detention Center.
