Former big league pitcher highlights Grayson Co. HS baseball team fundraising dinner

The Grayson County High School baseball team will host a fundraising dinner featuring a former big league pitcher as the key note speaker.

The dinner, catered by Bluegrass Barbeque and held at Centre on Main, will feature former major league pitcher, Louis Coleman.

Coleman played his college ball at LSU before being drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 5th round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft. He made his major league debut on April 21, 2011.

Coleman, 35, of Greenwood, Mississippi, was a relief pitcher during his seven-year major league career, appearing in 264 games, posting a 12-6 record with a 3.51 ERA and 272 strikeouts.

He was a member of the Royals when the team won the 2015 World Series. In 2016, he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his final year in the big leagues in 2018, Coleman pitched for the Detroit Tigers.

With the Tigers, Coleman, known for his sidearm delivery, tossed 51.1 innings, posting a 4-1 record with a 3.51 ERA and 41 strikeouts.

The fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, February 12 at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $25, with proceeds benefiting the Grayson County High School baseball team.
