The number of COVID-19 cases ever diagnosed in Grayson County has topped 8,000, with virus-related deaths topping 120 as the county’s case count continues to drop.

On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, the Grayson County Health Department (GCHD) reported a combined 17 new cases to state health officials, raising the total number of cases in the county to 8,002. By comparison, the previous weekend the GCHD reported 95 new cases to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

Two new deaths were also reported over the weekend, raising the county’s death toll to 121, giving Grayson County six COVID deaths during February.

Grayson County’s rate of occurrence fell from Friday’s 33.0 per 100,000 residents to 28.7, leaving the county as one of only 60 Kentucky counties still in the “red.” The county’s incident rate, though, has fallen dramatically from a rate of occurrence of 249.7 recorded on February 1.

An incident rate over 25 indicates a “critical spread” of the virus.

All bordering counties are now out of the “red,” with Edmonson County’s 9.4 incident rate the lowest in the region. Ohio (11.9), Hart (16.5), Breckinridge (20.2), Butler (21.1), and Hardin (21.2) counties are now in the “orange,” indicating a “substantial” spread of the virus, according to the Kentucky Department for Public Health.

According to the KDPH, Grayson County’s positivity rate stands at 15.1 percent (the number of people tested versus the number of positive tests), nearly double Kentucky’s 8.56 percent.
