The Elizabethtown Police Department is investigating after five armed robberies were committed in less than an hour on Friday.

According to EPD Public Affairs Officer Chris Denham, the five robbery victims “shared similar accounts indicating they were approached by a young black male wearing a face covering, dark clothing, and armed with a handgun.”

The robberies occurred as the victims exited their vehicles while in parking lots to various businesses.

The robberies, which took place between 7:45 and 8:30 local time Friday night, were committed at 1111 North Dixie Avenue (parking lot for several businesses, including Peddler’s Mall and St. John’s Uniforms), 1704 North Dixie Avenue (Towne Mall parking lot, two robberies took place at this location), 324 Towne Drive (behind Towne Mall), and 109 Noltemeyer Way (an apartment complex less than a mile from the cluster of other robberies).

The armed robber fled the scenes in a dark-colored Cadillac SRX driven by another person. In the final robbery, the suspect stole the victim’s light gray 2020 Dodge Challenger.

At this time, the suspects have not been identified, Denham said. Police, though, are actively pursuing leads.

Denham added that similar crimes have occurred in surrounding counties and “are likely connected.” He encourages citizens to be vigilant in being aware of one’s surroundings, avoid poorly lit parking lots and consider traveling in pairs.

Anyone with information on this armed robbery spree is asked to contact Elizabethtown police at 270-765-4125.
