An allegedly intoxicated Caneyville man has been jailed on multiple charges, including assaulting a police officer, after wrecking on Morgantown Street.

Wednesday night at approximately 8:40, Grayson County Deputy Sean Fentress was dispatched to the crash near the intersection of Morgantown Street (Hwy 79) and Main Street (Hwy 185) in Caneyville.

Upon arriving at the scene, Fentress encountered the driver, 24-year-old Joseph W. Lindsey, walking on Main Street carrying what appeared to be red PVC piping and acting erratically.

Lindsey’s vehicle, a Lexus RX 300, was in a ditch off Morgantown Street (just before the intersection of Main Street). Based on a lack of brake or other marks on the roadway, the vehicle appeared to have been driven directly off the road into the ditch in a curve as it traveled north.

Lindsey was arrested and transported to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center for a blood draw, which the suspect refused. While at the hospital, the handcuffed suspect attempted to wrap Fentress’ hand up in the cuffs, resulting in Lindsey being taken to the ground, police said.

He was charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, public intoxication, reckless driving, disorderly conduct, and driving on a suspended license. He was also served with a failure to appear warrant out of Grayson County.

Lindsey was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

According to online records, Lindsey was arrested in Grayson County in July 2023 and charged with DUI, speeding 26 mph or more over the limit and possession of marijuana.

Grayson County Sgt. Jordan Jones and Deputy Thomas Lane assisted at the scene. Jones also assisted Fentress at the ER.
