A man accused of shooting at a Kentucky State Police trooper a half-dozen times has been found guilty of multiple charges.

LeeQuan T. Taylor, 24, of Lexington, shot at trooper Michael Sanguigni six times on January 28, 2022, after Sanguigni conducted a traffic stop on Taylor in a Cynthiana mobile home park.

The investigation showed that three of the shots struck the trooper’s ballistic vest; one shot struck his taser; one hit his body-worn radio; and the final round struck his body, causing serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Sanguigni was treated at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Taylor, who was arrested after a brief manhunt, was initially charged with attempted murder of a police office, first-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

He was found guilty in a Harrison County courtroom on Tuesday of criminal attempt to commit first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, possession of a controlled substance, and fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), according to multiple media reports.

The jury recommended a 55-year prison sentence. Formal sentencing is May 7.

The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team investigated the shooting.
