The man found deceased in a vehicle Thursday morning in Leitchfield has been identified.

According to Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson, the decedent is 63-year-old Howard F. Yeager, of Opelika, Alabama. Yeager, who was retired, moved to Grayson County to help his son build boat docks, officials said.

The cause of death is currently unclear. The body has been transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for autopsy. The preliminary autopsy results should be available in the next 24 to 36 hours and could possibly shed light on the cause of death.

The Leitchfield Police Department responded to the old stock yard/Hideaway Café Thursday morning at approximately 5:55 after Grayson County Central Dispatch received an anonymous tip stating that a vehicle had been parked at that location for four days.

Upon LPD Officers Tim Moutardier and Eugene Cain arriving on the scene about 150 yards behind the Marathon/Taco Bell building, they located Yeager inside a vehicle, along with a live cat in a cage.

Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson and Deputy Coroner Larry Holeman, along with multiple Leitchfield police officers worked the scene.

Animal Control took the cat to the Leitchfield Animal Shelter.

The Leitchfield Police Department and Grayson County Coroner’s Office are investigating.
