The Breckinridge County sheriff involved in a DUI crash has entered a rehab program in Tennessee.

Sheriff Todd Pate was arrested Friday night after a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 259, near McDaniels, where he struck a vehicle being driven by Leitchfield resident Jill Lanning. Witnesses reported seeing Pate hide beer bottles in a wooded area near the crash site. According to Kentucky State Police, Pate had a blood alcohol level of .159, nearly twice the legal limit.

In court on Tuesday, Pate’s attorney entered a not guilty plea and told the court that Pate had entered a 45-day treatment program, according to media reports. This incident marks the second time Pate has been charged with DUI since October 2015.

He was first elected sheriff in 2003.
