At Thursday night’s Grayson County School Board meeting, Grayson County High School Principal Josh Baldwin recognized several students who “fulfill Profile of a Graduate criteria.”
The Profile of a Graduate initiative was developed by the district using a cross-section of business and community leaders, school administrators, teachers, parents and students as a set of five expectations, primarily soft skills, believed essential for success in today’s world.
The goal of the district is to include the Profile of a Graduate components in each student’s education experience from elementary school through graduation.
The Profile of a Graduate criteria promotes students to be:
- Personally empowered – High self-standards and motivation; acts with integrity: Models a positive attitude, diligent work ethic: Strives for excellence and continual improvement: Actively engages in community and civic life.
- Effective communicators – Listens actively: Speaks purposefully to inform and influence, writes clearly: Engages in technologies and social media while maintaining a responsible digital footprint: Positively deals with praise and criticism.
- Solution seekers – Asks questions, willing to listen open-mindedly to understand different points of view: Creatively uses information and resources: Seeks and applies innovative strategies: Adaptable approach to challenges and opportunities.
- Team players – Works cooperatively with others to accomplish a common goal: Open-minded to diverse ideas: Flexible to change, prioritizes group needs over self when appropriate: Resolves conflict peacefully and productively.
- Enterprising innovators – Sets short-term goals to achieve long-term outcomes: Initiates learning growth and self-improvement: Growth mindset, willing to take risks and learn from mistakes: Persists to accomplish difficult tasks, overcomes barriers, seeks help when needed.
The high school students recognized by Baldwin for exemplifying Profile of a Graduate criteria were:
Gracyn Cook, Cooper Terry, Josie Decker, Briley Berry, Hunter Pendergest, Emily Lush, Chevy Lindsey, Erike Khan, and Payton Abney.
