The Leitchfield Fire Department responded to a semi truck on fire in a business parking lot.

Thursday night at approximately 6:30, LFD responded to the blaze in the Walmart parking lot. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the engine and passenger compartments fully engulfed in flames.ase

Initially, firefighters were uncertain if anyone was in the semi, but several minutes after LFD arrived the driver appeared on scene.

It took firefighters a short time to knock down visible flames, but about 30 minutes to completely extinguish the blaze.

One firefighter who arrived on scene within a minute or so said the intense heat from the fire could be felt about 150 feet away as the semi blazed. The fire melted a large portion of the engine compartment and destroyed the semi’s passenger compartment.

LFD Chief Tim Duvall said the driver noted that the semi’s battery had been “running low,” but it’s unclear if that circumstance led to the fire.

The semi truck is owned by Riggins Transportation and Logistics, a Shepherdsville-based business.

Firefighters cleared the scene at about 7:40. No injuries were reported.
