A Grayson County High School senior has been awarded a Cherry Presidential Scholarship, WKU’s most prestigious academic award.

Nathan Meredith, of Clarkson, was one of only 15 recipients of the four-year renewable scholarship.

The scholarship is valued at $16,000 annually and worth $64,000 during a four-year period.  Meredith and 14 other high school students were chosen from a group of applicants who were invited to interview and participate in a virtual event on March 18.

Students must have a minimum 3.8 unweighted high school GPA and a minimum 29 ACT (1350 SAT) to qualify to for the Cherry Presidential Scholarship, according to WKU. The scholarship is automatically renewable with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (at the end of the spring semester).

Meredith plans to major in Biology and add another major in Science and Math (secondary education).

“My end goal is to teach biology at the high school level,” Meredith said. “After college, I hope to eventually return to the very public school classrooms that raised me, and start my own teaching career.”
