The Grayson County Health Department has released January’s restaurant/food inspection results.

The rating score of the establishment is determined by subtracting weighted point values of noted violations from 100, officials said. Unannounced inspections observe the overall operation of the facility, including food source and protection; personnel; food equipment and utensils; maintenance of water and sewage systems; garbage and refuse disposal; insect, rodent and animal control; and storage of toxic items, among others.

Critical violations, four and five points in weight, are items, which if uncorrected, carry the potential to be an imminent threat to the public’s health. These items must be corrected in a time designated by the health department not to exceed 10 days.

Inspection results (regular inspection unless otherwise noted)

Captain D’s: Food score 87 – Violations: Food not stored covered, proper date marking missing, thermometers not found in all fudge/freezer/walk-ins, wiping cloths not properly stored, in use utensils not properly stored, non-food contact surface-not easily cleanable, non-food contact surfaces with debris, physical facilities with debris, proper cold holding not observed.

Sandy’s Restaurant: Food score 94 – Violations: Food not stored covered, missing date marking, thermometers not present in all refrigerators/freezers, non-food contact surfaces with debris, physical facilities tiles cracked.

Grayson County Senior Center: Food score 99 – Violation: Food not properly labeled.

Dairy Queen: Food score 93 – Violations: Food labeled out of date, missing date marking on multiple items, hair restraints not worn, mops not properly stored, non-food contact surfaces with debris.

Farm Life Nutrition: Food score 99 – Violation: Contamination not prevented during storage.

Famer’s Quality Meats: Food score 91; Retail score 99 – Food violations: Food contact surfaces with debris, proper date marking missing, utensils not properly stored, non-food contact surfaces with debris, physical facilities-cracked and missing tiles in food area, food not covered. Retail violation: Hand washing not accessible.

Short Creek Store (follow-up): Food score 93; Retail score 97 – Food violations: No Person in Charge (PIC) present during inspection, food stored not covered, proper hot holding temperatures not observed during inspection, food not properly labeled, toilet facilities not supplied.
